East Bound to Decatur // Clarkston

Willow Branch where I ran barefoot

Dandelions dancing under me carrying me forward to fates unknown

Broken English and wandering eyes

Curiosity gets the best of me so I explore with my spirit

Have I been here before?

151 Jacksonway

transitioned from the projects to section 8

Two bedrooms, one bath, and a family of five

Trust I know how to take up space

The diaspora has stretched my lungs and filled them with hope

Inhaling clouds of smoke from construction and road work

Gentrification follows closely behind like an uninvited guest who stays way too long

Displacement be a second language I don’t recall a time I called a place home for too long

Owning your story calls for acceptance. The circumstances that led you here are trying to teach you something beyond what meets the eye. Raising myself above every single circumstance that tried to defeat/ destroy me is why I am so powerful. Why I consider myself and alchemist. The victory is already mine. It’s my birthright! What’s your story?
