Wild, Unfiltered, and Opinionated

A Poem On Children As A Former Substitute Teacher

Monday morning ushers in a cacophony of children running at break-neck speed across freshly swept floors

I’m not sure whether I should be concerned or alarmed

My voice softens to a gentle whisper when I reprimand a second-grader

Eyes widen and worried heads hang heavy

I remember a time when I too was just as wild, unfiltered, and opinionated

A world away from adolescent confusion and responsibility

notebooks filled to the brim overflowing with colors and sketches

the pure simplicity of a child’s mind is a reminder not to take life too seriously
